The Omniscan 450 FS is perfect for forward-looking ROV applications. It features a transducer and electronics housed in a single enclosure with an Ethernet and power interface. Two enclosure options are available, rated for depths of 100m or 300m.
As the ROV or surface vessel moves, Cerulean SonarView creates a "painted" image of the scanned sea floor, providing excellent situational awareness even in murky conditions.
For surface vessels with GPS or ROVs with DVL, scanning is both translational and rotational. For underwater vehicles without positioning data, Omniscan's Doppler Position Tracking provides translational information along the beam's direction. By using two Omniscan 450 FS units—one facing forward and the other at a 90-degree angle to either side—full 2D motion tracking is possible, enabling position hold mode.
Operator Scanning
When using the Omniscan 450 FS on an ROV, the scanning is directly controlled by the ROV operator, allowing them to focus on specific areas of interest instead of waiting for a mechanical scanning sonar to slowly cover the desired sector. The "Heading Up" mode in SonarView makes manual scanning intuitive and enhances situational awareness.
The Omniscan 450 is available in two models: the FS (forward scanning) and SS (side scanning). This manual applies to both models. While the model names suggest specific scanning directions, either model can be used for either application. The main difference lies in the transducer and packaging.
The Omniscan 450 FS, shown below, comes fully enclosed, housing both the transducer and electronics module. Enclosures are available for 100m and 300m depth ratings.
